A SUNDEK surface stays cooler than typical gray concrete, exposed aggregate, pavers, tile, and even epoxy. Learn more about our pool deck options. But keep in mind that any surface will absorb heat on a hot day. If you live in an area with high summer temperatures or if your swimming pool is in a spot with full sun, we recommend choosing a light color that will absorb less heat than a dark color.

Our coatings add a thickness of about two quarters stacked on top of each other (just under a quarter-inch). However, if a concrete surface is uneven, we use our blending overlay to get up to 2 inches thick.
Existing cracks won’t prevent you from getting the pool deck you want. SUNDEK of East Tennessee can assess the cracks and figure out the best way to fix them before resurfacing.
A SUNDEK surface can last 10 to 15 years with proper cleaning and maintenance, depending on use. We have seen surfaces last up to 25 years!

This finish combines the durability and easy maintenance of concrete with slip-resistance of sand. It consists of our water-based acrylic finish coat combined with aluminum oxide, making the surface slip-resistant and protecting it against weather and environmental pollutants.
This protective clear concrete sealer makes the surface easier to clean and maintain. It also helps the surface withstand heavy foot traffic. You can add fine-grain aggregates to this coating to ensure maximum slip resistance.
Stamped concrete enables you to mimic the appearance of natural materials like river rock, cobblestone, wood, brick, slate, flagstone, and more. Since it creates a textured pattern with grooves, it also reduces the risk of falling.

Comfort (cool decking)
And as long as we’re installing a new surface for your pool deck, we also want to make sure it’s comfortable to walk on. Many of our clients ask if we do cool decking (sometimes called kool decking). Cool decking is the process of applying a coating that lowers the surface temperature of a pool deck. SUNDEK coatings are much cooler than typical gray concrete surfaces. The texture we apply makes it comfortable to walk on with bare feet. We also guide our clients to choose lighter colors for their pool deck, as darker colors absorb heat.
Pool Deck Maintenance
Caring for a decorative concrete pool deck with a SUNDEK coating is surprisingly simple. The key is to have the surface sealed, as a high-quality sealer will protect it from damage, fading, and general wear and tear.
